SAC Kicks Off 2019 Member Artists Show

MICHAEL GUTE, of Detroit, is among the artists participating in the 22nd annual Shiawassee Arts Center Member Artists Show, which opened on Tuesday, June 25. Gute has a master’s degree in museum administration from Eastern Michigan University and is currently pursuing a second master’s degree, in business, from Wayne State University, where he is employed as an associate director of fundraising.

Showcasing member artists Shiawassee Arts Center to open 22nd annual show

Michael Gute, an Owosso native who lives in the city of Detroit, is a painter who has exhibited his work at SAC and formerly served on its board of directors. He is entering his “Waiting IV” in the Members Art Show, for which $500 in awards will be presented at 2 p.m. June 30. The juror is Randal Crawford, professor of art at Delta College. “I work in making pictures, mostly with oil,” said Gute, a 2008 Owosso High School graduate. “I’ve been integrating ink and spray paint into my work. Those mediums add a spontaneity I really like.”

Together We Can: Affirmations Exhibits Artist Michael Gute’s Work to Fight Substance Abuse

“It’s a self-portrait,” said artist Michael Gute, describing “Detroit Figure,” one of his paintings featured in the Together We Can Exhibition, whose purpose is to bring awareness to the struggle of addiction and recovery. It’s on display now through Jan. 10 in the Affirmations LGBTQ community center’s PittmannPuckett Gallery. The oil painting depicts the Detroit skyline behind its subject; there is turbulence in the water.
